In 2017, U.S. exports of goods and services to Brazil were $63.5 billion, up 17.8% from 2016, and imports from Brazil were $35.0 billion, up 8.2% from 2016. As a result, the trade surplus with Brazil increased to $28.5 billion. In 2017, exports to Brazil accounted for 2.7% of total U.S. exports, and imports from Brazil accounted for 1.2% of total U.S. imports. An election for president of the United States occurs every four years on Election Day, held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The next presidential election will be held on November 3, 2020 . The election process begins with the primary elections and caucuses and moves to nominating conventions, during which political parties each select a nominee to unite behind. The nominee also announces a vice presidential running mate at this time. Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946, at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Queens, New York City, the fourth of five children. Trump grew up in Jamaica, Queens, and attended the Kew-Forest School from kindergarten through seventh grade. At age 13, he was enrolled in the New York Military Academy, a private boarding school, after his parents discovered that he had made frequent trips into Manhattan without their permission. "All Legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." (Article I, Section 1, of the United States Constitution) Laws begin as ideas. First, a representative sponsors a bill. The bill is then assigned to a committee for study. If released by the committee, the bill is put on a calendar to be voted on, debated or amended. If the bill passes by a simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another committee and, if released, debated and voted on. Again, a simple majority (51 of 100) passes the bill. Finally, a conference committee made of House and Senate members works out any differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill.
