Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased in 48 states and the District of Columbia in the first quarter of 2018, according to statistics released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The percent change in real GDP in the first quarter ranged from 3.6 percent in Washington to -0.6 percent in North Dakota. California is the biggest state with a GDP of $2.75 trillion in 2017. The European Union is a unique economic and political union between 28 EU countries that together cover much of the continent. The predecessor of the EU was created in the aftermath of the Second World War.
